  1. In most cases, the alcoholic reported use of drugs as well.Even the founder fo AA,Bill W,reported combining alcohol with sedatives to get the desired effect. It has been my experience in AA that it is okay to speak about alcohol and substance abuse simultaneously in open meetings. This is because they were used simultaneously. However if an individual did not use alcohol and was primarily a drug user, they find NA,CA,or other related 12 steps programs having a more compatible platform. The alcoholic and addict,in general are very similar yet diverse creatures.Alcoholics Anonymous was developed with the alcoholic in mind, in closed meetings we confine our discussions to alcohol because these meetings are meant for alcohlics. There are some who never used drugs. Many of them seek out these meetings to be with their own kind,we learn from those with like mentality and similar afflictions.
