Among the different major occupational groups, food service workers and construction workers exhibited the highest prevalence of past-month illicit drug use. About one in six food service workers (17.4 percent) and one in seven construction workers (15.1 percent) reported past-month illicit drug use.
The highest prevalence of heavy alcohol use occurs in the construction and extraction occupations (17.8 percent), and the installation, maintenance and repair occupations (14.7 percent). Occupations reporting the lowest incidences of past-month illicit drug use include education, training and library (4.1 percent); community and social services (4 percent); and protective service (3.4 percent). The lowest prevalence of heavy alcohol use occurred in the community and social services occupations (2.8 percent).
